When we started it was a little dreary, but Friday grew better adn better as the day wore on.

Our first stop found us at a little winery called Tickle Hill outside of Hector. It has some pretty good fruity, fun wines that we tasted and bought a couple of bottles of. The Rosbaughs, who own it are very nice people, and do all the growing and winemaking themselves.

A short time later we came to Burtdett on Rt.79, and we went to the Grist Mill Cafe. It doesn't look like much, but a couple of years ago I stopped there for lunch and had one of the bigger surprises of my visits in the F.L. region. They make all of their own breads, and have fancy sandwiches and soups. This particular day, Gramma and I had a delicious cheese fondue. Mmmmm good!

Our travels then took us to Hammondsport and we visited the Kolos'. They are young customers of mine, who have been trying to make it with a vineyard (not so good), and many other small businesses. They are really good hearted people, and the wife, Christine, gave us some hot, homemade chocolate chip cookies, and gave us a tour of their old, renovated home.

We shopped in Hammondsport and then went up to Bully Hill Winery. The view is beautiful, but it was so crowded we didn't stay there. So then we headed for our room at Belhurst Castle's White Springs Manor.

After settling in, we met some friends at the bar in Belhurst and after a couiple of drinks had dinner alone in the same room where we had our first anniversary dinner over 30 years ago. Incidentally, those 31 years went awfully fast, and I couldn't have chosen a better woman to have shared them with. Gramma is truly the love my life.

Our room was great! Wonderful views, a fireplace and a jacuzzi in the room, a couch with in-room coffee and tea. Pretty nice for two old people.

The next day we started with a bagel breakfast, went off to a Menonnite gift shop, and then to Canadaigua. We visited the Wine and Culinary Institute ( a new place ) that focuses on New York produced products and has cooking seminars for those that are interested. A little later we went to Granger Homestead, and old home we used to visit when we were first married nad experienced our first Christmas Tree Festival for this year-the first in many years. The day was a rainy one, so we did not spend much time outside. We concluded our trip with a nice lunch at Bristol Harbor Resort restaurant-an Adirondack style place with a knock-out view of Canadaigua Lake.

What a great way to spend a couple of days. Stress just about disappeared, and we just had time to share with each other. Retirement, here we come!

The Jirouseks Christmas List

Okay, here's the start of ours...

Todd's List

1. I am here by myself this weekend. Sean and Gabe headed down to Florida on Thursday to spend time with BarabaraLee, Joe, Mike, and Ryan. It sounds like they are having a lot of fun. Gabe took his first trip to Busch Gardens this morning. I'll post some pictures when they send me some. I've been trying to enjoy my time alone. I went out to dinner with some friends last night, but I haven't done much today. Here are some pictures that BarbaraLee sent me. One is on Ryan's swingset and the other is Gabe with Joe and Sean. Enjoy!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween! I hope you all had a fun night of trick-or-treating. We went to the Mall of Georgia with Shawn and Melissa and their kids to go trick-or-treating. At first Gabe was a little confused I think. He didn't quite know what to make of everyone dressed up in costumes. He was dressed as a little puppy and was quite cute. Everyone who saw him couldn't stop gushing over him. We got a couple of good pictures so I posted the best one.

Grandpa's Visit to Winder

A couple of weeks ago I was able to make my annual pilgrimage to Winder, and as usual, it was great. The weather was perfect for my flight down and Sean met me at the airport. We got to Hickeria Way and Courtney and Gabe were waiting for me. I think Gabe remembered me, and he sure looked like he had grown. After a few minutes of getting reacquainted we all took off for a dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant down there. We had the good fortune of having the same friend of Courtney's and Sean's entertain us as the last time. Gabe seems to really get into the music.

I can really get confused what we did throughout the week on any particular day, so I will give you details in no particular order. One day Courtney had to go to a doctor, so Gabe and I went to a park. Although we were able to do a number of things, he really liked swinging the best. He went pretty high and kept yelling wheee! He also went walking and was intrigued by fallen leaves and acorns.

At the doctor's Courtney got a pictur of the baby in the oven. It seems she is pretty sure that there is a girl there. Now do you really think that could be?

We spent a lot of time reading and saying words. One day we saw a picture of a cow and he told me it says "moo". I told him that a cow was a ruminant, and he replied, "uminant". Pretty smart, huh? He tries a lot of words, some better than others.

Gabe is a really good and happy little guy. If you tell him to pick up something he does it most times. He is good at giving hugs and kisses, and sometimes you don't have to ask for them. "Bless you" is part of his vocabulary when you sneeze. He likes cars, planes, motorcycles, balls, and his girly hat. It is pretty interesting watching him buckle himself into his high chair.

If there was a concern it was that he didn't eat much in the first half the week. It turned out he was a little sick. When he felt better he ate better, but no doubt about it, this boy likes his milk.

One day Court and I went shopping and Gabe joined us for a lunch in a restaurant. He surprised us in that he knew red. When we left I think he said goodbye to every person that we passed in leaving.

Marissa, the kid has a good leg with the ball - might have another soccer player here. Also we did some swinging on a broom handle which I held.

My last night was a good one in that Courtney and Sean went out to eat, and Gabe and I took care of ourselves. We ate, read, played, had a bath , and went to sleep. Couldn't be any better!

As they say, all good things must come to an end, and Saturday I came back to Rochester and the cold. And you know what? Grandma was back here in Marcellus.

Monday night Courtney called and said that when they came home that afternoon, Gabe walked into the house and started calling for ampa. I'll be back little buddy!

We've been busy too...

Things have been very busy for Sean and I lately. I started the new school year at the beginning of August. I have a very nice class this year, as well as a student teacher. It's nice to have another adult in the room who can help! The pictures of Gabe are from our recent trip to Charlotte, where we met up with Marissa. We stayed in Mooresville, which is right on Lake Norman. I wish we could have stayed and visted longer, but I wasn't feeling well that weekend.

Gabe is doing so many new things now. He finally said "Grandma" and "ampa." He's starting to put a couple of words together and can also jump off the ground. He keeps us busy, but he's a lot of fun to be around. He's eating better. We figured out that we can get him to put food to his mouth if we ask him to kiss it! I discovered that he likes to eat chicken mixed with mashed potatoes.

Sean has been busy working on his fraternity software. It looks like a bunch of fraternitys might sign up, which is great for us! Keep your fingers crossed!

I'm not sure when we'll up to visit again. We're trying to figure out what we're doing at Christmas. Talk to you all soon!

Sorry so long!

Yes, we never post anything, sorry!
We had a great time in Europe! We spent a few days in Prague with Todd's parents. We ate lots of good Czech food, Todd drank lots of Czech beer (we went to the Pilsner Urquell brewery in Plzen). Prague was as beautiful as I remembered it. The Charles Bridge and castle are gorgeous!

After Prague, we went to Paris on our own for a few days. It was beautiful (and expensive). We stayed on the Ile St. Louis, which is one of the islands in the middle of the city. It was right next to the island where Notre Dame is, which we went to for breakfast in the morning! We went to the Louvre and the Musee d'Orsay. We recently read the DaVinci Code so we looked for stuff in the book. The World Cup was going on while we were there, so it was quite crazy. Todd and I tried our best to find the best food, which drove us a little crazy (we're a little too picky sometimes).

Finally, we went to Burgundy (rented a car and drove through the countryside). We stayed at a beautiful chateau in the middle of the country. We ate great food, and went on a great wine tour. Todd ate a lot of escargots but I didn't (surprise surprise, I know!) There was a crazy foie gras (which is a pate made of duck liver) farmer, and we bought a tiny pot of foie gras for $30 and then we ate it all for lunch! We loved the countryside, it was so romantic and relaxing! We swung up to Reims and the Champagne region at the end. Unfortunately we could only bring back as much wine as we could carry so we only brought back 8 bottles!

After getting back we've been quite lazy! I had some more time off before I could start working, so we did some work around our house. It was recently painted a tan color and we had some landscaping done. I'll take a picture of it and send it to you! We went to Ohio for dumplingfest last month which was yummy as usual! Other than that we've been enjoying the summer and eating lots of Delaney's Corn!

Oh yeah, and I started working a couple of weeks ago. I'm working in a private practice in Auburn, with Dr. Tom Clary. It's a beautiful new office and everyone there is really nice, so far it's a great place to work! You are all welcome to come see me when you need some dental work!!

Hope you are all doing well, when will you be visiting?

Taryn

Hi again

Seems as if no one posts anything anymore. I haven't written in a while, so here goes. Working in the hospital is great! Except for those 430 and 5am starts. I wouldn't mind sleeping in a little bit longer, but I definitely think I am doing the right thing with my life which is nice. Ob/gyn is great because I get to see patients in an office setting, hospital setting and have plenty of time in the operating room. The OR is my favorite for sure, all though delivering a baby was pretty awesome too! Next week should be a good challenge. I will be on night float, which means I'll be working the night shift and sleep during the day (hopefully) although that can be tough because I still have some lectures and things that I have to do during the day, but we'll see.

I don't have any good pictures to post for you...no cutie pies here like Courtney has. (the best I have is this one...its the zoomed in view from the end of my street looking across the river). How was your trip to Europe T&T? Write about it and post some pictures. How was Prague? It seems like it would be an awesome place to visit. My biggest adventure here is going to the pool down the block from my apartment, so I could use some living through others. I guess my adventure today was when I drove over a big piece of cement (like a cinder block) on my way home. I am okay, but my car seems to have lost something from the bottom of it...its loud now.

Well, I don't really have any other news from down here. I need to finish some studying and research for a presentation I need to make for tomorrow. Can't wait to here from all of you soon. I got to sleep in this morning because I have a doctor's appointment, and I have to fast so I can't eat breakfast and I'm STARVING! Pixie gets to sleep in too, I just took this picture of her.

She was sick last week and we were so worried, she had some GI problems and she wouldn't eat. Our vet was on vacation so we had to just wait it out. She is better now. I think she ate a button.

So I'm almost done with my residency! Three more weeks! And I know you are all dying to find out what my plans are for next year. It's kind of complicated. They have asked me to stay as an attending at the hospital. I am planning to do that for at least 2 days a week. I really like the hospital, and we get to see interesting things. Plus I WON'T have to be on call. As for the other 3 days a week, I am still interviewing for jobs in private practice. I guess I'm picky. There are rules if you take a job you can't practice within a certain radius so I don't want to take a job that will prevent me from working near my home in the future. So I'm interviewing for jobs a little farther from home now, but I found a couple that I really like. Then after a couple of years I will need to decide whether I want to stay there or maybe open my own practice in Marcellus or something. So I'll let you know when I make my decision.

Other than that we're doing fine! Todd has another gig on Friday night with Canadian Tuxedo. We are all set for our trip to Europe in July, we're going to Prague, Paris and Burgundy wine country. We're very excited about it!

Did you guys have any ideas about what you want to do when you are home? I didn't take any time off, but if you wanted me to take a certain day off I could probably still request it, but I need to let them know soon because I will need to cancel my patients.

See you soon!

Love Taryn

Done!

Good morning! She's such a cutie pie.

I have been very bad about posting and it's been a while! Last month Todd became middle aged (that's right he joined the Sean Purcell old man club) and turned 30. We had several celebrations. First his parents came up for a visit and we ate dinner at Elderberry Farm, which is a restaurant in Auburn we love! (Actually, this weekend for his birthday present from me, we went there for a class in growing herbs and veggies, cooking them, and then we got to eat them- it was great!)

Next we had a birthday dinner at our house with inlaws and mom and dad which was nice. Then for his big birthday weekend we went down to NYC to celebrate with all his friends. We had a great sushi dinner and then went out to a bar in the East Village. Saturday and Sunday the weather was awful, but we went to Lee's wedding in New Rochelle. It was funny because all the guys had the guido haircut like the boys from Growing Up Gotti (you've probably never seen it, but it's all this gel and your hair sticking up straight all over, even in the back)

Other than that weekend I think we've been our usual boring selves. Last weekend we starting renovating our downstairs bathroom, it's a disaster now. And Todd is the liturgist of the month at church, his first time doing it! He did a good job on Sunday.

Pixie is still great, but a destructor. She can now go up and down the stairs, we let her run around unleashed in the backyard, the little girls in the neighborhood always come over and ring our doorbell to see if Pixie can come out to play. We have caved in and let her sleep in our bed at night. She snores like a fat old man! But we love her anyways.

Oh, and Todd's band has their first gig this Friday night! They are playing at a bar in downtown Syracuse. I'll take pictures of my little rock star!

Here's a picture of Todd and Pix watching baseball together.

Can't wait to see you all next month!

Taryn

Happy Friday!

Hello all! It's a wonderful Friday evening. Sean is picking up a pizza for dinner. He has Gabe with him so I am enjoying a few teasured moments alone. We have some old college friends flying in from Buffalo this weekend. This week has been an easy one for me since our students have been taking the CRCT, our state test. Only five more weeks left in the school year! Sean has started working on a new project, so he has been busy with that all week. At least he can work from home again, so no more driving to Atlanta every day! Gabe is saying some new words: sock, Zach, Bailey, up, and cookie. He is also very into dancing and has some pretty cool moves. I don't know if mom was able to capture any on tape while she was here. We'll be up in New York pretty soon, so I'm sure you will all see him dance and talk then. These pictures are from Easter. He has a lot of fun putting the basket on his head and running around without being able to see. Apparently it is very funny. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Vacation!

I'm on spring break this week. How interesting how this all connected. I hope I can celebrate with you in a couple more years :) I don't have a lot of news from down here...just been enjoying the good weather we have been having. Soon, I should have sometime to do more than just study in it. I have an exam tomorrow and another on Monday...then a nice little break. I also have a little request. I need some pictures of me, they can be posed or snapshots, so if any of you have some that you could email me or post or something, I would really appreciate it (they can be of me and someone else). Well, I need to get back to studying, but I wanted to say hello. Love you all!

Happy Doctor's Day To Me!

So guess what? March 30th is Doctors Day! I had no idea until I got to work and we get to eat an m&m carvel ice cream cake! I decided to do some research so I of course went to the Hallmark website and found out the following:

The first Doctors’ Day observance was March 30, 1933, in Winder, Ga. The idea came from Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Cha Almond, and the date was the anniversary of the first use of general anesthetic in surgery. (On March 30, 1842, Dr. Crawford Long of Barrow County, Ga., used ether to remove a tumor from a patient’s neck.)The Barrow County Medical Society Auxiliary proclaimed the day “Doctors’ Day,” which was celebrated by mailing cards to physicians and their wives, and placing flowers on the graves of deceased doctors, including Dr. Long. The United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution commemorating Doctors’ Day on March 30, 1958. In 1990, legislation was introduced into the United States House of Representatives and United States Senate to establish a National Doctors Day. Following overwhelming approval by the House and Senate, then-President George Bush signed a resolution designating March 30 as National Doctors’ Day. The first National Doctors’ Day was celebrated in 1991.

I thought it was pretty cool that it was invented in Winder!

So it's my first Doctors Day, I don't know if I'll get to celebrate it again!

Tuesday Morning

It's suppose to start warming up again today. Starting tomorrow we'll be in the 70s again. Next week is my spring break. We don't have any major plans. I think I may do some painting over the weekend. Gabe is not feeling well again. We're not sure if it's a cold or what. He had to go to the doctor on Friday. He seems to be doing a little better. The pollen count is way up again so I wonder if it is allergies. Our flight out was good, but because of delays we arrived very late at night, so our first meal in AZ was at Denny's. Next morning we got up and had a good breakfast before we hit the road. One thing we noted right off the bat was how friendly everyone was. That continued throughout the entire trip.

The trip north to Sedona was really beautiful. The landscape kept changing as we climbed in elevation. I think that Phoenix is about 2500 feet. Sedona is about 4500, and the Grand Canyon is about 7000+. Flagstaff is 8000. The temperature changed too. As we approached Sedona the mountain formations made a definite change to the red rocks, and the shapes were unique. The particles are actually gray white, but are covered with an iron oxide (rust).

The Johnsons' live in a beautiful modern home nestled among trees, shrubs, and various plants. There is no lawn as we know it. Piglike creatures called javelinas walk through their yard. The living room has a breathtaking view of Thunder Mountain, ansd in front of the window is the baby grand which Craig played for us various times. Their hospitality was awesome. The meals that they served were of 5 star quality. And of course the conversations that we had were something that we will recall for a long time. It is wonderful to have such good friends.

Our trips were many. Of course the Grand Canyon simply knocks your socks off. Even when you see it you can hardly comprehend its immensity, let alone its beauty. We have always wanted to see the Indian ruins of the west, and did we ever see them! Montezuma's Castle was surprisingly well preserved. When Craig and Sue showed us the ruins where he volunteers we saw ruins up close, including pictographs. Some were up to 9000 years old. Canyon DeChelly was different but defintely inspiring as well.

Craig and Sue incorporated us into their lives and we met their friends. Charlie went to a Lions Club dinner with Craig and later in the week climbed with him and some of his friends. Sue and Marion went out to eat with one of Sue's friends. We also had some great Mexican food.

Later in the week we bade Sue and Craig adios and headed for the Navajo Indian reservation where John and Elizabeth Waterman reside with their lovely little girl Kristine. We had a really good time eating and talking with them. Kristine is a really smart little kid (she likes Marion a lot more than Charlie). Unfortunately things were not really good for Elizabeth on the next morning. We haven't heard how things turned out.

Finally we returned to Phoenix and caught up with Chuck and Margaret Blow. What a grand experience. Again we experienced some very gracious hosts. They served us a wonderful dinner, but the stories we heard about Marion and her family really filled in a lot of blanks for Charlie. Grandma Ives, I think, was a very nice lady with a good sense of humor. She expected things to be done right, but was not prone to losing her temper.

Anyways, we did get home again. They got to know us at the Houston airport, but would just as soon forget about Charlie. That is a story for another time.

A little sidenote. We went in February 2006. Grandpa Smith went through Phoenix in 1928. Can you imagine what that must have been like? Think of the size of the city, roads, cars, lack of phones and computers. I enjoyed thinking about seeing some of the same things he might have seen nearly 80 years ago.

That is it for this blog, but be ready in a few days and I will do one about our trip to Marissa's white coat ceremony.

I can't seem to get to the pictures, so I will send this and try to move them to where I can get them and send them forward.

We're still alive too!

Hello Smith family! It's a beautiful day in Georgia. It was sunny and close to 70 degrees. Of course I had to spend it indoors, but at least it was just a teacher work day (no kids!!). Right now Gabe is picking up things on the rug and giving them to me. I guess he's trying to tell us to vacuum. Sean's parents, brother, and our nephew came to visit a couple weekends ago. Mike surprised us all by telling us he wanted to take Cody back with him. Apparently Cody is very happy down in Florida and likes having another dog to play with. We are hoping to go visit them soon. Sean's had a couple of (really good) job offers from his clients, but he hasn't decided what to do just yet. Not too much else is new. I'm just trying to make it the last nine weeks of school. They are schedule to start renovating our old school and adding a two-story addition starting this June. It should be done by the start of the 2007 school year. The worst part is that they are going to move teachers out of their classrooms a few at a time during the year so that they can renovate the rooms then move them back in. None of us are looking forward to that. The good news is that they are most likely going to push back the start of the 2007 school year to after Labor Day, so I'll have a very long summer next summer! Dinner's almost ready, so I need to go. Have a good Thursday!

Yup, we're still alive

Hello everyone!
Todd and I have been pretty busy over the last few weeks. Last week we went to Scottsdale, AZ for our friend Mike's wedding- you may remember him as one of the readers at our wedding. He has been pretty sick over the last few months, but he was still able to celebrate with all of us. A ton of our friends from Cornell came so it was really fun. The weather was great (75 and sunny- a welcome change from here!) We got to make a quick stop at Sedona to see the beautiful red rocks, and Todd was happy we got to see a Giants spring training game in Scottsdale.

Yesterday I hosted Fran's baby shower. She is due in the beginning of April but her doctor thinks she may be early! She is still as tiny as ever but with a big bowling ball in front. We had a really nice time with all of our high school girlfriends, we had a lunch at Hobbit Hollow (an inn in Skaneateles).

Pixie is doing great, we had a pug play date with Marisa Craybas's pug Lola, who is a cutie too! Pixie was so happy to have a friend to play with. We need to find her more friends around here!

I'm also really busy at work and starting to interview for positions for next year. I'm looking forward to getting settled.

That's about it from here- Todd is downstairs cooking chili and watching some kind of sporting event. Tonight the Sopranos are finally back on HBO so we'll be eating Italian food and watching TV. Hope you are all well!

A long overdue hello!

Hello everyone! I haven't heard from you all in a while. I have been on spring break all week, which has been awesome. It is so nice, not having to study. Too bad classes start again on Monday. I spent the first few days of my week with the orthopedics department down here at school, including time in the clinics and OR. On Wednesday, I was in the OR and was 2nd assist on the surgery! It was so much fun...I got to scrub in, help hold various parts, cut stitches, etc. My first OR assist :) It was definitely real, as I was splattered with blood...even onto my mask. The last few days of break, I have decided to do absolutley nothing...just been watching TV, cooking, sleeping, and painting my bed. I ran out of paint though, so I probably won't be able to finish it quite yet.

A few weeks ago we had a dinner at church, and this is a picture from it. Its just of me and a couple of friends.

How are the rest of you doing? How was Phoenix? How are Gabe, Pixie, and Megan? Any new or exciting news, pictures or stories? I hope that things are going well for everyone, and that we'll see each other soon. Mom and Dad are coming down next weekend to visit for my white coat ceremony, but the rest of you are welcome to come too! I'd love to have you. I guess I don't really have any other news...just getting ready for classes to start again. Send some pictures when you get a chance (or post them). Love you all!

Love,
Me

Separated at birth?

Does anyone else see a resemblance?

Saturday Morning

It's Saturday morning about 7:15. Gabe is still sleeping so I thought I'd enjoy a cup of coffee and post some pictures of the little guy. He's walking all the time now and has even learned how to stand up without pulling himself up on something. He says "da-da" but refuses to say "ma-ma" when asked. Apparently he inherited my stubborn streak. He's been sick the last week and has two ear infections. Sean has been very busy this past month. He's still working for a company in Atlanta doing network administration and also another company doing Crestron programming. Things are finally looking up for us! I've been busy with teaching, my master's, taking care of Gabe, and now, being the team captain for our school's Relay for Life team. I've been a little stressed out lately, but I try to remember the saying "this too shall pass". We may try to go to visit Marissa the first week of April for a few days and to also give Cody to Greg, if he's still interested. If anyone wants to fly down to Georgia, we'd love to see you! I hope you all are doing well. Not much news from the elder Smiths with the exception that we are getting ready to go to Arizona next Sunday. We will be getting on board at about 2PM and will stay in Phoenix that night. The next morning we will drive up to Sedona to stay with Craig and Sue Johnson, 928-204-2262. From that point on everything will be kind of loosely scheduled. We will arrive home on the following Sunday afternoon.

I am sitting here today trying to become more proficient on the 'puter, and looking out at pretty nice winter day. Tomorrow is Valentine's day, but Mom has a meeting so we went out Saturday night for dinner and had a really good time. TnT joined us for a dessert of vanilla pudding and brownies while we watched the Olympics. It was the end of a pretty nice day.

Did any of you know a Chris Black? I think the paper said that he was 22. Anyways, he died on Thursday from a heroin overdose. Calling hours were yesterday and the place was packed. Sad to see what could have been a productive young life ending that way.

As you can see, I added a picture. This is the picture I currently have on my desktop and is an image of the midnight sun in Norway. Thought it was pretty. I will do better next time.

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you. Your mother loves you (and so do I). Gotta love it. I have nothing exciting going on in my life other than go to school, go to the gym, go to bed. I am excited about watching the Olympics though, as long as the US is winning. Did you see the women's hockey?! Anyone know if the groundhog saw his shadow? I am completely out of the loop and have no idea what happened with that. Anyway, I am merely rambling on because I have found that if I post something, the rest of you usually follow through and put up some pictures, which always makes my day. How is Pixie doing since her surgery? I hope she, and everyone else is doing well. Hope to hear from you soon, but for now, it is back to studying for me.

Love you all!

Gabe Turns One!

We had two birthday celebrations for Gabe. I just had dinner with Mom and Dad and they definitely have some cute pictures from Christmas and their trip to Georgia, but unfortunately they don't have a computer to be able to download them, so Courtney will have to do it. I don't have a lot of pictures since we just got our camera, but I'll see what I can find! OK, here are the only pictures I thought you'd be interested in: Todd and Pixie, and that's his brother Ryan with his girlfriend Jessie.

I found out one of my patients died today, which was kind of strange, he was young, but had a lot of medical problems, like many of my patients do. It is just sad and I wish I could have finished his partial denture. I bet it will happen many more times in my life.

Okay, I have to get this poor puppy, she sounds so sad. ik, vb..; That's from Pixie, she's on my lap now. Todd calls her the Junior Executive because she likes to sit on his lap while he works.

As far as interesting stuff in my life, I got called into the OR on Sunday night at 2am to extract 2 wisdom teeth, so that was fun, then I got home and got called back in at 7am to fix a girl's front teeth (she was drunkenly riding on her boyfriend's shoulders and fell and broke her front teeth off!) Ahh, the life of an emergency dentist.

That's about all from me, I'm just home alone!

Where is everybody?

Hello Family!

How is everyone doing? I am, as usual, studying. Actually, I am just getting ready to study, but thought I would update people about my life. I started taking boxing this week, and absolutely love it...it provides a nice outlet after studying and being in class for 10hrs. Yesterday, was the worst of the classes as we had 8 hours of lecture, and 2 hours of orientation. What a horribly long day! Today was very easy in comparison, as we only had 6 hours of lecture.

Last Friday it was 70 degrees out, so I actually hung outside and got a little sun. But have no fear, it then turned to 30 on Saturday, and today it is about 20 and snowing! I guess there is still some winter left afterall. What is it like in everyone elses neck of the woods?

It has been pretty fun here in Morgantown lately with our football team doing so well, and the basketball team climbing in the national rankings. With some luck, I might get to see them play a game one of these days. I am also getting ready to start my intramural basketball, so hopefully we will have a good season. It would be fun to be the champs of something!

How are Gabe and Pixie doing? Are the babies doing well? I haven't seen pictures, and I know that people have some. Is Gabe having a birthday party? Did he like his cake when Grandma and Grandpa were down in GA? And how are all the proud parents? I know that people had a lot of trips planned and such, so how were they? As soon as I go on a vacation, I will send you all sorts of pictures...of course that might be a couple years away.

Anyway, I am sure I have bored you all enough, and I need to do some studying seeing as I have an exam on Monday (I'll take all good luck wishes, and helpful prayers). Hope to hear from all of you soon.

Love and miss ya!

Thank goodness it's almost the weekend!

Well, I've only been back to school for two days, one of which was without kids, and already I'm ready for the weekend. How many more days til the end of school?? Remember how excited we were for the last day of school? Multiply that by 100 and you'll know how the teachers feel. Anyway, it's been a tough week between Sammy's five hundred dollar surgery and having to be away from Gabe all day. He's walking a lot now...more walking than crawling. We'll try to do a webcam session on his birthday so you can all see him eat cake for the first time! We had a wonderful time in NY. It's always so hard to leave and come back to Georgia, although it was nice to come back to warmer weather and no snow. It was almost 70 yesterday, which is unusual, but still a pleasant surprise. I've started my master's program and couple days ago. So far, the work load isn't terrible, but it's only the first week. Luckily I have a good friend to go through it with me. I need to go back to helping Sean clean, so take care, Smith-Jirousek Clan.

Sammy the One-Eyed Pirate-cat

I thought I'd post a picture of our after-Christmas gift. Plus some people get to go see the Purcell Family in Georgia!

Todd and I are planning some fun trips so we have something to look forward to. At the end of January we are going to spend a weekend in Ithaca to mark the 10 year anniversary of our first date (we've decided to upgrade from the pizza takeout place we went to and go to a nicer restaurant, Maxie's Supper Club). Then the first weekend in March we're going to Scotsdale, AZ for our friend Mike Shore's wedding, and then in April Todd turns the big 3-0 and we're heading to NYC to celebrate and go to Lee's wedding. So it should be a fun spring!

We had a nice New Years in Ohio with the Jirouseks! The good news is we got a new digital camera so we will be able to take more pictures to post here! I also ate some fried chicken and mashed potatoes at my favorite restaurant, Hartville Kitchen (www.hartvillekitchen.com) , and we got to see all the relatives. New Years Eve we had a party in the basement, like a big bunch of teenagers, and we got to see Max and Andrew and Kris, Todd's best friends from childhood. It was a great weekend!

Hope you are all having a good 2006 so far!

Taryn

After Christmas Greetings!

Hello!

There haven't been any posts here in a while, so I thought I would drop a line. Being home for Christmas was great, and we all know it was all because of Gabriel ;)

Thanks for the presents and just hanging out...it was so relaxing. Unfortunately, it is back to studying around the clock for a few more months, but I guess I asked for it. If anyone has pictures they can post from Christmas, it would sure make for a nice break from studying for me. I have some pictures, but they are the old fashioned kind on 35mm, so I can't post them very well.

Hope to hear from you all soon.

Plans Update

Just to update you on a few things:

-Cramers are definitely coming over on Tuesday at 7 for dessert- you are all welcome to come over for dinner before that- I will hopefully be home around 5

-Aunt Mimi is having us over for lunch on Thursday, not dinner. I would rather not wear black sweaters for the picture...One, i don't have one, and two, i don't look good in them. All solid color sweaters would be better, I think...a similar style I think would be better. But I can bring just about whatever I have got so we will have choices. For the rest of the plans, it all sounds pretty good to me. Taryn, are you and Todd doing stockings at your place first, or just coming over to Mom and Dad's? Are you coming back there after the Christmas eve service, or are we going to your place, or what?

Any other ideas for presents for anyone? Courtney and Marissa are both arriving Monday, right?

Here are some things I had in mind:

Tuesday evening: Dinner at my house- mom has a game. Then I am inviting the Cramers over for dessert because they want to see all of you and our house

Wednesday evening: Pictures at JC Penney- we need to decide on what to wear before you all pack. We were discussing maybe blac sweaters/shirts- wear any style you want, or maybe just all solid sweaters. Let me know what you think

Thursday evening: Dinner with the Knox family- I think at our house but I'm not sure.
I also took a half day that day so I was wondering if Courtney and Marissa wanted to meet me for lunch that day downtown or something. We can do any last minute shopping then!

Friday evening: Courtney and Sean are going out with friends, so if you have friend plans then maybe Friday dinner is a good time. I took the day off so we can get together during the day.

Saturday: Cooking, having fun, wrapping presents and going to church in the evening

Sunday: Christmas! Todd and I will be coming over at 8am so if we could do stockings then it would be great! We don't care if you want to come downstairs and start baking the cinnamon twists and stuff. Ives and Ernisses coming over later in the day, dinner (I think Turkey) later in the day.

That's the stuff I know about, let me know what you think!

I can't wait to see all of you (and I know Mom and Dad are counting down the days)!

I've thought of more wishes...

I need a new set of drinking glasses (heavier glass, nothing fancy)
shirts that are long enough to not show my belly button when I lift my hands up (think writing on a chalkboard)
And the Metropolitan Desk from Target
Purse by Yans NY (available at yansny.com and irvs.com)
Ok, I think that's it for now. There's not too much going on in Georgia. Gabe is upstairs taking a nap, so I have a few minutes to myself. We put up our little Christmas tree last weekend. We had to get a tabletop tree so we wouldn't have to worry about Gabe pulling a tree down on top of him or eating ornaments. Gabe's upper front tooth came in a couple days ago. Maybe by Christmas you'll be able to see more of it. I have 9 more teaching days left before Christmas. It doesn't seem to go fast enough. We got our picture taken yesterday, our first family portrait. Sean was not happy that Gabe wore a very cute little vest. Oh well, tough luck for him. I thought he looked cute (Gabe that is) We can't wait to see everyone when we come home in a couple weeks! Until then, you can enjoy this picture of the three of us.

Nothing exciting to report

So I was hoping to wait for something interesting to report, but things have been pretty slow around here! I had 4 patients scheduled this morning, 2 cancelled and 2 didn't bother to show up, so I'm pretty bored at work. Todd and I were planning on starting our Christmas shopping tonight and go out to dinner, but we're expecting a snowstorm so we'll have to play it by ear. So if you have thought of anything else to add to your Christmas list, you should add it now (Sean Purcell).

So let me update you on the not-so-exciting events of our suburban life. Pixie's training is going slow, as expected. This morning she pooped on our entry mat while we shoveled out the cars. This is progress because it means she tried to get to the front door, but she just couldn't wait for us to let her out. The other morning she pooped in her cage, but we didn't know it. She just refused to get out and was laying on the poop because she was ashamed. This is progress because it means she knows it's wrong! I knew you'd all like to hear about that. Maybe when Gabe is potty training Courtney can give us daily updates.

Todd's new band, Canadian Tuxedo, is performing at their first "gig" on Saturday, which is Jason's wife Tina's birthday party (in case you don't know what a Canadian Tuxedo is, I'm posting a picture). We'll let you know how it goes. Tomorrow we're going to get our Christmas tree, which should be fun! I'll take some pictures of our house so those of you that haven't seen it since the renovations can take a look.

My foot is slowly improving, not quite as purple as it used to be, although I still can't move it much. It really puts a damper on wearing fun holiday outfits when I have to wear this giant boot.

Hope you are all enjoying the Holidays! By the way I made a compilation Christmas CD using all our favorite CDs. Let me know if you want a copy!

Baby on a Mission

<img style="FLOAT: left; Aunt Janet and Uncle John came up to enjoy the festivities at our house in Skaneateles. I don't think anyone got food poisoning, and people seemed to enjoy it ! The only new and adventurous thing we tried was a new green bean casserole, which at least Marissa liked! Other than that, it was just turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin bread, stuffing, etc. with yummy pies for dessert. We also got to watch some football and holiday movies, which was nice. The Purcells made an appearance via webcam, which was nice, so we could sort of pretend we were together. Gabe was wearing his cute Turkey bib (bought for him by his wonderful aunt!)

The rest of the weekend was very relaxing, it's always nice to have time off from work (and not on call). Aunt Mimi and Nanci came up for lunch on Friday, we went to the Sherwood Inn Tavern, which was yummy as usual. Friday night we had some of my high school friends over for a housewarming party.
